The Four Seasons
Antonio Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons’ was written in 1723. Although published in 1725, the first official performance date remains unknown. Historians are unsure exactly who the piece was written for however king Louie XV grew a huge fondness for the spring extract and requested to hear it played multiple times per year. Although eminently popular after publication, ‘The Four Seasons’ became largely overlooked over the next few centuries. The first huge resurfacing of Vivaldi’s piece occurred in 1989 by Nigel Kennedy. This rendition of the Four Seasons was the first classical piece to top the pop charts. This was said to be due to Kennedy’s charisma mixed with the universal relatability of the piece.
